DESCRIZIONE:

Publisher's description:
Short introduction to the amazing finds of garments from the Norse settlement of Herjolfnes in Greenland by Else Østergård. Chapters on technique: production of the tread, dyeing, weaving techniques, cutting and sewing by Anna Nørgaard. Measurements and drawing of garments, hoods, and stockings with sewing instructions by Lilli Frandsen. A practical guide to making your own Norse Viking garment!

From the back cover:
During an excavation at Herjolfsnes in Greenland approximately a hundred years ago, a sensational find of Norse garments was made. At the time, this find was described as the greatest textile-history event in Europe, and proved that even here in the far north the Norse inhabitants, despite their relative isolation, had followed the European fashions og the time. With the Herjolfsnes find, it became possible to see well-preserved examples of medieval garments, and experience how children and adults were dressed 800-900 years ago.
This book is a long-awaited practical guide for all those who wish to sew their own Norse garments. It contains patterns for the best-preserved garments, hoods and stockings from Herjolfnes, as well as practical information on the spinning of thread, dyeing, weaving, cutting and sewing.
