DESCRIZIONE:

"Tristan & Isolde" est un opéra, ou drame de musique, en trois actes de Richard Wagner, qui a écrit aussi le texte en allemand, basé en grande partie sur le roman de Gottfried von Strassburg. Cette oeuvre a été composé entre 1857 et 1859 et créé le 10 juin 1865 au Théâtre royal de la Cour de Bavière à Munich.

Publisher's description:
Tristan and Isolde, a "Story in Three Acts" by Richard Wagner, hat its world première on June 10, 1865, at the Royal Court and National Theatre in Munich. Music was never the same again: Wagner had dared to make the final step outside the boundaries of tonality. The piece has always been seen as being influenced by Wagner's reading of Schopenhauer and his experience with Schopenhauer's pessimistic philosophy. Peter Konwitschny's new production on the same stage in Munich gives it a new, optimistic interpretation. At the opening of the Munich Opera Festspiele on June 30, 1998, Tristan und Isolde was staged in what is now the ninth new production at the Bavarian Staatsoper since the piece's world première in Munich. Directed by Peter Konwitschny, stage and costume design by Johannes Leiacker - a team already well known in Munich for its much-respected Parsifal. Zubin Mehta conducted, shortly before being called to be General Music Director at the Bavarian Staatsoper. The title parts were interpreted by Jon Frederic West and Waltraud Meier. Kurt Moll sang King Marke, and Marjana Lipovcek sang Brangäne. This recording is of the performance of July 4 (8), 1998.
